3 <br /> 1 o Breeze Farm incubator program has served 377 individuals over past eight years <br /> 2 > 40 new farms have been created <br /> 3 • 30 farms created by individual taking PLANT classes <br /> 4 • 10 beginning farmers who leased land at Breeze Farm now farm <br /> 5 on their own land <br /> 6 • 24% (83) are involved in local food businesses or local food <br /> 7 network <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Commissioner Jacobs said the public is being priced out of Farm-to-Fork, at $100 per <br /> 10 ticket, and asked if this is being re-considered. <br /> 11 Carl Matyac, County Extension Director, said he will pass this request on to the planner. <br /> 12 Commissioner Price suggested increased marketing of the event. <br /> 13 Travis Myren resumed the presentation: <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Community Services <br /> 16 • Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks & Recreation <br /> 17 o Fairview Community Watch - $5,500 <br /> 18 > Hire temporary employee/intern from neighborhood <br /> 19 > Moved from outside agencies <br /> 20 o Family Success Alliance Summer Camp - $8,700 <br /> 21 > Partnership with FSA and New Hope Elementary <br /> 22 > STEAM Camps (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) <br /> 23 > July 11 through August 18 <br /> 24 o Community Centers Program - $43,600 <br /> 25 > Cedar Grove, Efland Cheeks, Rogers Road <br /> 26 > Provides equipment, operating expenses and temporary staffing <br /> 27 > Core hours of operation —five hours per day <br /> 28 > Supplemented with Community Groups and Volunteers <br /> 29 o Cedar Grove Community Center History Wall - $15,000 <br /> 30 > Exhibits and displays honoring historic school and community <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Commissioner Jacobs asked if local college students have been considered to assist <br /> 33 with the Cedar Grove Community Center History Wall. <br /> 34 David Stancil, Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> 35 (DEAPR), said Peter Sandbeck, Cultural Resources Coordinator, is working on this, and he has <br /> 36 found people that actually attended this school and hopes to do some oral histories. <br /> 37 Commissioner Dorosin said the Jackson Center has done oral histories in the Northside <br /> 38 neighborhood in Chapel Hill and could be a good resource. <br /> 39 Travis Myren resumed the presentation: <br /> 40 <br /> 41 Community Services <br /> 42 • Seasonal Staffing - $69,000 <br /> 43 o Hollow Rock Nature Park and Seven Mile Creek Preserve <br /> 44 o Demand measures show increase in park access and services <br /> 45 <br /> 46 Community Services <br /> 47 • Capital Investment Plan - FY2016-17 Recommendations <br /> 48 o Blackwood Farm Park- $1.26 million <br /> 49 > New access road and entrance <br /> 50 > Phase 1 of multi-year park development <br />
