To culminate our yearlong endeavor, FSF is proposing to host a"Freedom Book Festival"in late- May or by mid-June 2017,to tie in with Juneteenth.We want to have an afternoon or evening of book readings from the book,and will invite local authors and poets with similar interests to join us with readings or recitations of their works.Thomas Watson and Jacquelin Liggins,born and raised in Orange County,will help with outreach to the community. OCAC funds are needed to compensate the designers and writers, or artists fees,for the printing or production of 24 photo books,marketing and for materials for the Freedom Book Festival. o For artist fees,we need: $150 for Joanie Alexander, $150 for Freddie Parker,and$300 for Renee Price. o To cover the cost of printing and binding twenty-four [24] 80-page books, FSF is requesting$750.We plan to use the services of A Better Image Printing, a local business. The details of the book are as follows: Cover, 11 x 17 White 80#XPRI Digital Cover Gloss, copied on 2 sides. Inside Pages, 11 x 17 White 80#XPRI Digital Text Gloss, 19 sheets, copied on 2 sides o For the culminating event,we will need$100 for marketing and publicity. o We are requesting$50 for props and other materials for the culminating event. FSF will cover other costs,such as expenses for publicity and the reception,through donations and other fundraising efforts. The preferred location is the Jerry M. Passmore Center [formerly named Central Orange Senior Center] in Hillsborough. Should the Department on Aging co-sponsor the event,we will be able to defray the facility rental fee.Free Spirit Freedom has enjoyed several exhibit openings and storytelling programs at this site. Our intended audience will be people of all ages, ethnicities and cultures from Orange County and surrounding counties,and perhaps visitors from other states. FSF has attracted multi- generational and diverse audiences at all events since its inaugural opening. Because of our subject matter,people return"home" for our events...and oftentimes our events feel like family reunions and homecomings. After the event,our photo books will be available for wide distribution in exchange for a nominal contribution, and additional books for purchase will be ordered upon demand.A copy of our photo book will be provided to each of the following: the Orange County Library,the OC Historical Museum, Orange County Schools, Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools,the Hillsborough Visitors Center,the OC Visitors Bureau,and of course,the OC Arts Commission.
