Free Spirit Freedom now wants to make these images and stories more accessible
to the general public.
The first book, our pilot, will focus on our`Freedom through Faith and Knowledge' collection.
We will incorporate images of the one and two-room schoolhouses and the larger consolidated
schools that operated during the days of segregation and that were critical in the struggle and
path to freedom.Joanie Alexander and Renee Price will be responsible for the book layout and
design. Renee Price, with assistance from Dr. Freddie Parker, will conduct documentary
research and interviews to compose the essays to accompany the images.
Because we see the need to engage younger generations in perpetuating this history, Free Spirit
Freedom also will seek to include poetry or prose that interprets the photographs and stories
through the lens of our young people. We have connections with community youth
