Our vision is to "spark a love
of learning in all students." Our mission is "to create opportunities for students and teachers in every school
in the district." Since its inception in 1884, PSF has distributed more than $5.5 million dollars for innovative
programs and pr jects that otherwise would not have existed in our schools. It is our continuing mission to
play the role of champion for public education by advocating for positive change to make our schools the very
best they can be. Our ultimate goal is to prepare all of the district's students for life as successful adults in the
21st century, which will benefit not only our children, but our entire community.
This is what we believe:
• Every child deserves the best possible education
• Excellent teachers ignite learning
• High quality public education is fundamental to a vibrant community
This is what we do:
• Fund promising, innovative educational practices
• Partner with the community to raise funds that support teachers and students
• Foster opportunities for feedback with teachers and parents
• Manage funds responsibly with the highest degree of ethical standards
Current Programs and Services—a brief list
Grants--PSF is both a fundraiser and a grant-maker. Over$100,000 was raised by schools in 2014-15 for their own use.The 5K
for Education targets teachers and staff, in addition to parents, students, and community members, and
generates funds for schools and PSF grants. The "Teachers First Breakfast and Roses" kicks off Teacher
Appreciation Week every year with a wonderful breakfast for teachers and staff. Proceeds of over$90,000
are used for teacher programs and grants.
Endowed Teaching Chairs, Teaching Awards, and National Board Certification Scholarships are additional
means of support to recognize outstanding teachers. Over 80 awards were made in the past year alone. PSF
also partners with the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club to provide free school supplies valued at over$30,000 at
the beginning of each school year to teachers throughout our district. Several times each year PSF hosts Grant
Writing Workshops to provide guidance on grants and funding resources to teachers and community
members.
College scholarships, summer enrichment and tutoring funds support 150+ students every school year.
