Drawn together by a collective musical intuition, the two began
collaborating on Steph's original tunes, with Tim's traditional back-porch style accompaniment
weaving expertly through Steph's haunting melodies.
SAD Magazine-Weaver St. Market; 1:15- SAD Magazine are Andrew Snee and Robert
Graham, both guitarists and songwriters. Andrew currently plays in the Durham-based band Sea
Cow. Robert has played in a number of Triangle bands since the mid-80's;most recently, the
grunge-pop outfit Three Piece Suit. Their music recalls a three-way collision of Elvis Costello,
Neil Young, and Richard Thompson: equal parts plaintive lyricism and guitar dynamics.
Radar's Clowns of Sedation; PNC Bank; 5:00-Free-floating ensemble of local talent
crystallizing the original songs of ex-pat Brit P.T.Pawsey and featuring the songwriting talents of
Penne Sandbeck and Jesse Jordan. Favorite stomping grounds include The Cave in Chapel Hill,
The Blue Bayou Club in Hillsborough, Dain's Place in Durham,The Station in Carrboro, Slim's
in Raleigh, Clay Street Tavern in Mebane, Jack Sprat's in Chapel Hill, and many others.
Tim Smith Band-Town Commons; 6:00- After more than a decade, this North Carolina band
formerly called The Jumpstarts is still cooking up a deliciously original blend of great music.
Based in traditional 1950s style Jamaican ska and reggae, the group stirs in a heavy helping of
jazz with a sampling of gospel and blues. Seasoned with soul and a dash of funk, this concoction
really simmers. Like an old family recipe passed along from one generation to the next, the dish
of a band only gets better with time.
Big Fat Gap-Fifth Season Gardening; 6:00- Big Fat Gap is a back porch bluegrass band that has
no plans to take Nashville by storm. Some of them even have day jobs. They just like to pick,
they like each other, and it shows.Their shows are known to be excellent for those who enjoy
sweet three part harmonies, smoking solos, and captivating stage dynamics.
