He is the man I try to be, or would like to be. It all relates to a revelation I had. It took <br /> several years for an idea to come to light. Write an album of songs that celebrate the Irish/ <br /> American experience. So here is the product of that idea, "The Traveler", songs written with the <br /> love of'The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem' and'The Dubliners', with modern sensibilities. <br /> Trip allows me to bridge the gap between reality and fiction,pride and shyness, and America <br /> and Ireland. <br /> The Pinkerton Raid- Jessee's Coffee; 8:00- The songs sketch characters from Jesse's travels: <br /> street kids in California, weary worshippers at the communion rail, generous bartenders, hard-up <br /> songwriters in seedy pubs, a flirty piano-teacher in a hipster nightclub, a fatal attraction, a lonely <br /> divorce in Paris, a sleepy baby in her parents' arms. These stories float among layered <br /> keyboards, groovy bass lines and Kris' sparkling guitar textures. The band came together in the <br /> retro-pop renaissance of North Carolina's Triangle region, sharing strong influences like the <br /> Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young with a core of local acts. <br /> Fields of Mars- Open Eye Café; 9:00-If every musician is searching for that elusive sound that <br /> they hear in their heads then that would make Erich(Three Days In Vegas, Psycho Sonic Cindi) <br /> no different than the rest. He has said that it is like "musical sounds capes bouncing around like <br /> bells reverberating off the walls of some cathedral". Erich set about bringing together old band <br /> mate Brandon Lewis (Permanent Darling,Honey Driver) on guitar and Synth and Mary Anne <br /> Barckoff(Viva La Venus) on Bass. For two months or so they crafted songs that would <br /> eventually evoke the darker side of the 80's sugary power pop and ambient psychedelic modern <br /> rock. They eventually brought in filmmaker and musician in his own right Ismail Abdelkhalek <br /> on drums. <br /> Gentle Robot-PNC Bank; 1:00-Gentle Robot is a rock band in Chapel Hill. Described as <br /> "Sweet, confessional indie rock with a bluesy swagger and some understated but generally sick <br /> guitar playing" by The Pinhook. The following dudes are in the band: Tim Wall,Matt Teten, and <br /> Tim Sookram. <br /> Graymatter-PNC Bank; 3:00-Acoustic rock with huge harmonies, featuring siblings Barry <br /> Gray, Brad Gray and Bev Gray Gude along with Bev's husband Dave Gude. They have been <br /> singing,harmonizing and strumming together for more than 30 years. Recent additions to the <br /> band are e special-guest-stars-Chloe Gray Gude on violin and-vocals-and Derek-Gray-Gude-on—- ----.--------- <br /> accordian. <br /> Quiet the Voices- 2nd Wind Saloon; 5:15- Quiet the Voices is a quirky, soulful art-folk-rock duo <br /> comprised of Rose Gray and Marcos Lightning Harkness. With their intertwining of various <br /> stringed instruments and expressive voices, Rose and Marcos have drawn comparisons to Gillian <br /> Welch and David Rawlings for their compelling, hushed yet confident stage presence. <br />
