This 10-day intensive
training, taught by master teachers, presents theory and practicum on developing lesson plans,
inquiry methodologies, and other fundamentals of Teaching Artistry.
I have had the pleasure of being involved with Jeannette on several different projects from
selecting her artwork for several juried exhibitions, consulting with her on a large scale mosaic
public art project in Charlotte, to two very successful artist-in-residence projects for elementary
Schools in Chapel Hill. Through all these interactions, I found her always to be creative,
professional, knowledgeable of both her materials and methods, and always striving to improve
the quality of the experience she provides for her students.
Jeannette is a sought after artist-in-residence in school districts around the state and is one of a
few visual teaching artists recognized by the Professional Teaching Artist Roster of the North
Carolina Arts Council. These artists are vetted via a review by state-wide educators and veteran
Roster artists.
The area has a lot of talented artists, but it takes special skills and training to become a successful
teaching artist, especially in the schools. The Lincoln Center Teaching Artist Program is set up
to hone an artist's skills for connecting with students of all ages and for the artist to create more
meaningful experiences for those students. Workshop attendees are selected both for their
artistic abilities, as well as, for their experience and enthusiasm for sharing their abilities with
others.
I believe that Jeanette is at a point in her teaching artist career where she could greatly benefit
from exposure and instruction by master teachers I urge you to help support, in part, this
important opportunity. The skills and experiences she learns can be shared with other artists
adding value to the number and overall quality of teaching artists in this area.
- 1
Sincerely;,
7 '/
Jeffre j(Y r
Public & CU& a • r s Administrator
