The OCAC grant will assist Jeannette to attend the Lincoln Center
Teaching Artist Development Labs in July 2016.Through the years,Jeannette has worked to
develop and refine her artistry through a multitude of teaching experiences, community projects
and commissions. In the spring of 2011, she was accepted to the Durham Arts Council Creative
Arts in Public and Private Schools(CAPS)program,a program that places local professional
artists into schools to enhance curriculum through the arts. In my ten years directing the CAPS
program,I have yet to experience an artist who has made the impact Jeannette has within her first
year of joining CAPS.During her first year,Jeannette facilitated a major school-wide mosaic
mural in March 2012 at Sandy Ridge Visual and Performing Arts Elementary during its inaugural
year. The permanent mosaic now graces the school's entrance hallway, highly visible for all
students, staff and parents,All 600 Sandy Ridge students,pre-K through 5th grade participated in
creating the mural,
Additionally,Jeannette facilitated murals in Granville County at all of their 9 elementary schools.
The following year, she guided 8`h grade students to create mosaic murals in four of Granville
County's middle schools, exploring mathematical patterns and tessellations.Jeannette has lead
integrated mosaic residencies in over 30 area schools since joining the CAPS program. She has
done commissioned murals throughout the southeast and had guided students to create mosaic
murals in schools across the country.
Brossart has an extensive comprehension of her art form, integrates curriculum standards
seamlessly to support multidimensional learning, and is passionate and organized in her
interactions with students and teachers. The outcomes are always amazing.
I am honored to know and work with Jeannette. 1 feel that the opportunity to attend the Lincoln
Center Development Lab will continue to enhance her abilities as a Teaching Artist.I highly
recommend her for the OCAC Spring grant and feel confident that she will greatly appreciate and
benefit from this opportunity to further her professional development as a teaching artist in this
community and beyond.
Sincerely,
. 51---4,---- G' e
Shana Adams
Director,Creative Arts in Public and Private Schools(CAPS)
Durham Arts Council,Inc.
