1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: June 21, 2016 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 11-a <br /> SUBJECT: Appointments to the Orange County Criminal Justice Advisory Council <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of County <br /> Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proposed Appointees of the Criminal Caitlin Fenhagen, (919) 245-2303 <br /> Justice Advisory Council <br /> PURPOSE: To consider making/confirming appointments to the Criminal Justice Advisory <br /> Council. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Board of Commissioners created the Criminal Justice <br /> Advisory Council at its regular meeting on May 17, 2016. The Council will replace the short- <br /> term Jail Alternatives Work Group and will be a permanent body of appointed criminal justice, <br /> court, law enforcement and community leaders and stakeholders. The Council will coordinate, <br /> inform and enhance work in the criminal justice system and in the newly-created Orange County <br /> Criminal Justice Resource Office. Its formation is aligned with the best practices for the <br /> administration of an effective, innovative and equitable criminal justice system. <br /> The charge for the Criminal Justice Advisory Council is as follows: <br /> • To create systematic responses to specific problems <br /> • To reduce the duplication of efforts or conflicting efforts <br /> • To inform and improve the allocation of limited resources <br /> • To increase the communication, cooperation and coordination between stakeholders <br /> • To ensure the sharing of information and data between stakeholders <br /> • To improve the quality of services and programs by implementing best practices <br /> • To enhance accountability and transparency <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Social Justice Goals are applicable to this item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION AND <br /> INEQUITY <br />
