29 <br /> PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW YOUR BACKGROUND EXPERIENCES ARE RELEVANT TO THIS TASK FORCE: <br /> I've been bike commuting to my work at UNC Chapel Hill for over 13 years, first from <br /> Chatham County and now from Hillsborough (the last six years). I ride over 15,000 miles <br /> per year, and I'm acutely aware of the need for better relations between motorists and <br /> cyclists. In my view, there's a lot of mistrust and misunderstanding between both groups, <br /> and education programs that help each group better understand the other one would <br /> help reduce tensions and improve behavior. <br /> PLEASE EXPLAIN YOUR REASONS FOR WANTING TO SERVE ON THIS TASK FORCE: <br /> I'd like to help find common ground that comes from better understanding what motorists <br /> and cyclists want and need when they're sharing the road. I ride a lot, and I'd like to help <br /> make it safer for cyclists to ride on Orange County roads. Cyclists need a little more <br /> empathy for motorists who are sharing the same roads. When I'm commuting to work at <br /> 8 am, I know that people are trying to get to work, or taking their kids to school and then <br /> get to work.
