5 <br /> 1 Lamar Proctor said he is a Senior Assistant District Attorney for Orange County and is <br /> 2 here to ask for the Board to allocate $40,000 to Behavioral Insight's Domestic Violence <br /> 3 Intervention program. He said having a local program would have a significant impact. <br /> 4 Kyesha Clark said she is a junior at Carrboro High School and the National Association <br /> 5 for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth Director. She said she is asking the <br /> 6 Board to fully fund the CHCCS budget request. <br /> 7 Abigail Stern said she is a senior at Chapel Hill High School, and she is representing the <br /> 8 Youth Community Project and the Queer Youth Circus. She said she is here to ask them to <br /> 9 fund their outside agency budget request. <br /> 10 Yen Nguyen said she is speaking on behalf of the Youth Community Project in Chapel <br /> 11 Hill. She is supporting the Queer Youth Circus, which is a safe and inclusive program, and <br /> 12 asked Board to fund and support programs for youth. <br /> 13 Christine Abernathy said she is the Managing Director of the Youth Community Project, <br /> 14 and she asked for the Board's consideration of their outside agency funding request. She said <br /> 15 the ultimate goal of the Youth Community Project is to have a teen run community center. <br /> 16 Tara Mortimer Peloquin is speaking on behalf of the Orange County Living Wage <br /> 17 organization. She reviewed the highlights of the organization and the impact it has had on her <br /> 18 personally. <br /> 19 Victoria Creamer is the principal of Ephesus Elementary School, and she is here to ask <br /> 20 the Board of County Commissioners to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. She <br /> 21 reviewed the difficulties she has had in being able to hire qualified teachers and expressed <br /> 22 concern at being able to retain the qualified teachers already in her employ. <br /> 23 Heather Bittle said she is a 6th grader at Phillips Middle School, and she is here in <br /> 24 support of teacher assistants. She asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget <br /> 25 request. <br /> 26 Lilah Kroger said she is a 6th grader at Phillips Middle School and is in support of <br /> 27 teachers. She asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. <br /> 28 Pastor Thomas Nixon said he is the Senior Pastor of the St. Paul's AME Church, and he <br /> 29 is here tonight to ask the Board to fully fund the schools' budgets, as well as affordable housing, <br /> 30 in the 2016-17 budget. He stressed the connection between affordable housing and education, <br /> 31 noting that teachers should be able to afford to live in Orange County. <br /> 32 Sherri Carmichael said she is here on behalf of the Smith Middle School's School <br /> 33 Improvement Team and asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. <br /> 34 Kirin Pomerantz is a kindergarten student at McDougle Elementary, and he is here to <br /> 35 support the teachers and fully funding the schools. <br /> 36 Brian Pomerantz is his father, and he is here to ask the Board to fully support teachers <br /> 37 and to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. He said Orange County has very high <br /> 38 taxes, which he is willing to pay for better schools. <br /> 39 Joyce Yau/Leah Abrams/Davida Haley are three student body presidents from Chapel <br /> 40 Hill High, Carrboro High and East Chapel Hill High, who are tag teaming tonight to ask the <br /> 41 Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. They highlighted the commitment of <br /> 42 their teachers. <br /> 43 Tom McQuiston said he is here in support of the Community Youth Project. He spoke of <br /> 44 the death of his son and noted the lack of community resources for teens in Orange County. <br /> 45 Kevin Noonan said he is the Executive Director of the Human Rights Center (Immigrant <br /> 46 Refugee Community Partnership). He asked for the Board's support of their ESL program <br /> 47 through their outside agency budget request. <br /> 48 Jill Simon said she is speaking on behalf of Frank Porter Graham Bilingue School's <br /> 49 School Improvement Team, and asked the Board to fully support the CHCCS Board's funding <br /> 50 request. <br />
