5 1 Lamar Proctor said he is a Senior Assistant District Attorney for Orange County and is 2 here to ask for the Board to allocate $40,000 to Behavioral Insight's Domestic Violence 3 Intervention program. He said having a local program would have a significant impact. 4 Kyesha Clark said she is a junior at Carrboro High School and the National Association 5 for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth Director. She said she is asking the 6 Board to fully fund the CHCCS budget request. 7 Abigail Stern said she is a senior at Chapel Hill High School, and she is representing the 8 Youth Community Project and the Queer Youth Circus. She said she is here to ask them to 9 fund their outside agency budget request. 10 Yen Nguyen said she is speaking on behalf of the Youth Community Project in Chapel 11 Hill. She is supporting the Queer Youth Circus, which is a safe and inclusive program, and 12 asked Board to fund and support programs for youth. 13 Christine Abernathy said she is the Managing Director of the Youth Community Project, 14 and she asked for the Board's consideration of their outside agency funding request. She said 15 the ultimate goal of the Youth Community Project is to have a teen run community center. 16 Tara Mortimer Peloquin is speaking on behalf of the Orange County Living Wage 17 organization. She reviewed the highlights of the organization and the impact it has had on her 18 personally. 19 Victoria Creamer is the principal of Ephesus Elementary School, and she is here to ask 20 the Board of County Commissioners to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. She 21 reviewed the difficulties she has had in being able to hire qualified teachers and expressed 22 concern at being able to retain the qualified teachers already in her employ. 23 Heather Bittle said she is a 6th grader at Phillips Middle School, and she is here in 24 support of teacher assistants. She asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget 25 request. 26 Lilah Kroger said she is a 6th grader at Phillips Middle School and is in support of 27 teachers. She asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. 28 Pastor Thomas Nixon said he is the Senior Pastor of the St. Paul's AME Church, and he 29 is here tonight to ask the Board to fully fund the schools' budgets, as well as affordable housing, 30 in the 2016-17 budget. He stressed the connection between affordable housing and education, 31 noting that teachers should be able to afford to live in Orange County. 32 Sherri Carmichael said she is here on behalf of the Smith Middle School's School 33 Improvement Team and asked the Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. 34 Kirin Pomerantz is a kindergarten student at McDougle Elementary, and he is here to 35 support the teachers and fully funding the schools. 36 Brian Pomerantz is his father, and he is here to ask the Board to fully support teachers 37 and to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. He said Orange County has very high 38 taxes, which he is willing to pay for better schools. 39 Joyce Yau/Leah Abrams/Davida Haley are three student body presidents from Chapel 40 Hill High, Carrboro High and East Chapel Hill High, who are tag teaming tonight to ask the 41 Board to fully fund the CHCCS Board's budget request. They highlighted the commitment of 42 their teachers. 43 Tom McQuiston said he is here in support of the Community Youth Project. He spoke of 44 the death of his son and noted the lack of community resources for teens in Orange County. 45 Kevin Noonan said he is the Executive Director of the Human Rights Center (Immigrant 46 Refugee Community Partnership). He asked for the Board's support of their ESL program 47 through their outside agency budget request. 48 Jill Simon said she is speaking on behalf of Frank Porter Graham Bilingue School's 49 School Improvement Team, and asked the Board to fully support the CHCCS Board's funding 50 request.
