FuTV'ReS <br /> The tomorrow you've always imagined <br /> DaCorey Pemberton is enrolled in the Montgomery County Building Fu- <br /> tures Youth Program. He came into the program in need of assistance <br /> with increasing his math and reading levels during his senior year of high .. <br /> school. While in the program, DaCorey has participated in monthly lead- <br /> ership activities, he attended a Youth Conference at Haw River and he <br /> has received supportive services. He has a positive and eager personali- <br /> ty and is focused on what he needs to do to meet his future goals. <br /> While in High School he was actively involved in band, and the marching , <br /> band. He completed his Work Keys training and earned a bronze CRC <br /> certificate. In early May, he achieved his goal to graduate High school. I <br /> During the summer, he was placed in a Summer Work Experience at ' <br /> Council on Aging/ Start Kitchen. He helped prepare, package and deliver <br /> packaged food to the elderly in the community. This work experience <br /> was a good way to get him started to his educational/employment goals. j A <br /> His Case Manager worked diligently to enroll him in the fall semester at '1'' <br /> Sandhills Community College. He is now enrolled in the Culinary Pro- <br /> and <br /> is planning to graduate in May of next ear. <br /> gram p g g Y Y <br /> •Career Pathways Workshop...The Montgom- _ <br /> ery County NCWorks Career Center hosted a career ,. - • <br /> pathways workshop at East Montgomery High _ -Irv., <br /> School. This workshop was offered to showcase - <br /> services available at the career center and to expose • -:4.III <br /> students to training and career exploration. These '1 , ;" - _ _ '' '�►J <br /> g p t <br /> events have proven to be a successful way to invig- '4 ,- . <br /> orate local youth about their future career goals. T 7-' <br /> Students were assisted with basic resume prepara- 4 <br /> tion. They were further assisted with searching for -- - rill!: r <br /> employment. Students performed searches within Mai vo. . ,- ', <br /> NCWorks and various employee websites for suita- <br /> ble jobs. Students were guided on how to apply and place the most appropri- <br /> ate and beneficial data pertaining to the type of work applied for.
