Later I taught childbirth <br /> education classes. I don t know if those skills will be of any use on this board or not. It did help <br /> with public speaking. <br /> What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to <br /> accomplish if appointed? <br /> The ABC Board has a variety of responsibilities. These include evaluating the director, <br /> approving and monitoring a budget, and high level policy setting within parameters. There are 9 <br /> stores and an office so real estate matters such as leases and construction will arise. The Board <br /> should not get into the weeds but should work with the Director. Since employees are <br /> employees of the Orange County ABC Board and not of Orange County Government, there will <br /> be personnel responsibilities such as wages and benefits. Recently the ABC Board was able to <br /> provide the county living wage to its employees. As an independent political subdivision of the <br /> State of NC, I am sure there are other responsibilities related to serving on the Board such as <br /> collaborating with ALE. If appointed I would like to support the continuation of funding for <br /> prevention and education programs, in the schools and the county; to assist with financial policy <br /> to assure financial security and cash flow; and to learn if profits could also be used for mental <br /> health programming for rehabilitation. That may already be the case, and to coordinate this with <br /> our courts and jail services and social services.
