3 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, Orange County partners with the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, Preservation <br /> 2 Chapel Hill and other non-profit groups and local governments to preserve these important <br /> 3 resources; and <br /> 4 <br /> 5 WHEREAS, Orange County has demonstrated its own commitment to historic preservation by <br /> 6 renovating and preserving the former Cedar Grove School, the historic 1926 jail and the former <br /> 7 auditorium in the Whitted Center; and <br /> 8 <br /> 9 WHEREAS, Orange County recently opened the Blackwood Farm Park where the preserved <br /> 10 farmstead and Strayhorn slave cemetery interpret the area's agricultural history, and <br /> 11 <br /> 12 WHEREAS, Orange County, through its Historic Preservation Commission's landmark program, <br /> 13 recognizes important properties with historic, cultural and architectural significance, and in the <br /> 14 past year designated the White Cross School and the Nicholas Corbett Hester House as local <br /> 15 historic landmarks; and <br /> 16 <br /> 17 WHEREAS, "This Place Matters" is the theme for National Historic Preservation Month 2016, <br /> 18 co-sponsored by the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, Preservation Chapel Hill and the <br /> 19 National Trust for Historic Preservation; <br /> 20 <br /> 21 NOW THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim May <br /> 22 2016 as Historic Preservation Month in Orange County and call upon the people of the County <br /> 23 to join their fellow residents in recognizing and participating in this special observance. <br /> 24 <br /> 25 This the 17th day of May 2016. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price to <br /> 28 approve the proclamation designating the month of May as Historic Preservation Month in <br /> 29 Orange County and to join with the Board to extend an invitation to the public to support the <br /> 30 preservation of the County's irreplaceable historic and archaeological resources. <br /> 31 <br /> 32 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Peter Sandbeck, Orange County Cultural Resources Coordinator, showed the Board a <br /> 35 one-minute video. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 5. Consent Agenda <br /> 38 <br /> 39 • Removal of Any Items from Consent Agenda <br /> 40 Item c by Commissioner Rich <br /> 41 Item e by Commissioner Price <br /> 42 <br /> 43 • Approval of Remaining Consent Agenda <br /> 44 <br /> 45 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> 46 approve the remaining items on the Consent Agenda. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 49 <br /> 50 • Discussion and Approval of the Items Removed from the Consent Agenda <br />
