The interest grows out of recent work with the County's
leadership and citizens, combined with long-standing involvement in the County's
initiatives.
The recent work has focused on the Hillsborough-Orange
County Strategic Growth Plan. Clarion Associates led a
team of professionals that worked with a Steering
Committee and the elected Boards of Hillsborough and
Orange County to prepare a plan for managing growth.
The Plan identifies land use patterns that will best achieve
the goals of Orange County and Hillsborough as the Town
grows - -with attention to the edges and interface where
Town and County jurisdictions meet. A key
recommendation calls for execution of an Interlocal
Agreement that will set the stage for cooperative decision-
making. Part of the work on that Plan involved reviewing the
County's goals and growth management objectives to
incorporate into the recommended strategies. Starting with his work on the
initial concept of a Joint Planning Agreement and Rural Buffer for the areas around
Chapel Hill and Carrboro, Mr. Waldon was involved in nearly all major County
planning initiatives during his tenure. The Shaping Orange County's Future project,
the Water-Sewer Boundary Agreement, the creation of a Lands Legacy program,
and the current effort to update Orange County's Comprehensive Plan are
examples of the important initiatives in which he played a role. Understanding that
history and the evolution of planning concepts in Orange County is critical to the
success of this current initiative to pull all the pieces together into a coordinated,
updated Comprehensive Plan. We would like to be a part of bringing this project
across the finish line.
Clarion Associates
