The Hillsborough Arts Council supports the arts and enhances the Hillsborough and Orange County communities through education and by organizing events that feature regional artists for the enjoyment and education of the general public. For over twenty-five years, Hillsborough Arts Council volunteers have been serving the arts and cultural needs of the community through a diversity of initiatives and services that fulfill the Arts Council's mission to"enrich our community through the arts."The Hillsborough Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The HAC Board is a diverse group of artists and art lovers, and the membership includes potters,jewelry makers, poets, sculptors, photographers, mixed media painters, designers and art enthusiasts from Hillsborough and the surrounding area. Quarterly council meetings are open to the public. Board members and local volunteers serve on various committees for HAC events and activities. The HAC has one employee, a part-time bookkeeper. • Current Programs and Services—a brief list. a Arts in Education, Healing Tile,Art Cycle, Residency in afterschool,Artist Speaking Art,Artist as a Career. o Last Fridays free concert series with arts, crafts, children's activities and non-profit organizations around the Old Courthouse o Last Fridays Art Walks,during which venues unite to celebrate and present art; o The Hillsborough Handmade Parade, which features handmade puppets and has become a valued local tradition; o Parlor Concerts, which showcase traditional music; o The Hillsborough Downtown Arts &Crafts Show,where artists sell their wares and interact with the public at a personal and commercial level; o Free Spirit Freedom,which celebrates the contributions of African-Americans to Hillsborough's historic past and future; a The Orange Dog Poets Society, which supports the strong literary tradition of Hillsborough; o The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop, which provides a consistent venue for the work of local artists; o Music Masters series,which brings various performances and educational experiences to Hillsborough annually; • Proposed Uses of Grant Funds--description including location, date, artists involved. The Hillsborough Arts Council is collaborating with the Orange County Board of Education and Orange High School to establish the ArtCycle program in order to fill the gap of art classroom, afterschool and summer program's budget cuts. Once approved for this grant we will start: o Continue to do our survey of needs o Creating promotional materials o outreach to collaborate with Businesses, Organizations and Families for donations of supplies as well as monetary donations. o Establish our network of suppliers o Get local artists involves Once we get established: o Determine how we can include other schools in the district in this program o Determine how to include community service projects into school curriculum at all grade levels Hundreds of students will initially be served since we have completed our initial survey of needs from all of the art educators in Northern Orange schools.
