For over twenty-five years, Hillsborough Arts Council volunteers have been <br /> serving the arts and cultural needs of the community through a diversity of initiatives and services that fulfill the <br /> Arts Council's mission to"enrich our community through the arts."The Hillsborough Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) <br /> non-profit organization. <br /> The HAC Board is a diverse group of artists and art lovers, and the membership includes potters,jewelry <br /> makers, poets, sculptors, photographers, mixed media painters, designers and art enthusiasts from <br /> Hillsborough and the surrounding area. Quarterly council meetings are open to the public. Board members <br /> and local volunteers serve on various committees for HAC events and activities. The HAC has one employee, <br /> a part-time bookkeeper. <br /> • Current Programs and Services—a brief list. <br /> a Arts in Education, Healing Tile,Art Cycle, Residency in afterschool,Artist Speaking Art,Artist as a Career. <br /> o Last Fridays free concert series with arts, crafts, children's activities and non-profit organizations around <br /> the Old Courthouse <br /> o Last Fridays Art Walks,during which venues unite to celebrate and present art; <br /> o The Hillsborough Handmade Parade, which features handmade puppets and has become a valued local <br /> tradition; <br /> o Parlor Concerts, which showcase traditional music; <br /> o The Hillsborough Downtown Arts &Crafts Show,where artists sell their wares and interact with the public <br /> at a personal and commercial level; <br /> o Free Spirit Freedom,which celebrates the contributions of African-Americans to Hillsborough's historic past <br /> and future; <br /> a The Orange Dog Poets Society, which supports the strong literary tradition of Hillsborough; <br /> o The Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop, which provides a consistent venue for the work of <br /> local artists; <br /> o Music Masters series,which brings various performances and educational experiences to Hillsborough <br /> annually; <br /> • Proposed Uses of Grant Funds--description including location, date, artists involved. <br /> Include information concerning whether you have undertaken similar activities in the past. Discuss how arts program will be integrated into the curriculum. <br /> The Hillsborough Arts Council is collaborating with the Orange County Board of Education and Orange High <br /> School to establish the ArtCycle program in order to fill the gap of art classroom, afterschool and summer <br /> program's budget cuts. <br /> Once approved for this grant we will start: <br /> o Continue to do our survey of needs <br /> o Creating promotional materials <br /> o outreach to collaborate with Businesses, Organizations and Families for donations of supplies as well <br /> as monetary donations. <br /> o Establish our network of suppliers <br /> o Get local artists involves <br /> Once we get established: <br /> o Determine how we can include other schools in the district in this program <br /> o Determine how to include community service projects into school curriculum at all grade levels <br /> Hundreds of students will initially be served since we have completed our initial survey of needs from all of the <br /> art educators in Northern Orange schools. <br />
