DocuSign Envelope ID:9020A6ED-452A-4E45-90D6-6EA531 E010E2
• Sponsor the annual Walk for Education, raising over$120,000 in direct support for schools in the
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District
• Hold an annual Run for Education in the Spring with more than 600 participants and a 6-week
training program prior to the event for those who are interested in conjunction with Fleet Feet
Sports
• Host an annual Novice Teacher Tea at which all novice teachers in the District receive cash gifts and
school supplies to start off their new careers
• Host an annual Teacher First Breakfast benefit raising money to support PSF's Teachers First
initiative. The proceeds provide grants for national Board Certification fees, Classroom and Student
Enrichment grants, support for novice teachers, the PSF-East Chapel Hill Rotary Teacher Supply
Store, the Educator Extra Credit Card, and many other programs designed to attract and retain
outstanding teachers.
Proposed Use of Grant Funds:
Summary for Exploring Our Talents in Art Club: This proposal requests funds for an after-school Art Club
that would serve students in the Ephesus Elementary School community who would benefit most from the
opportunity to experience enrichment and success at school in a non-core area of curriculum.
Need/Use of the Funds: Students who struggle with academics, motivation, or behavioral issues need
support and a place to go in a school setting where they can feel successful. Many of these students are
from low-income families who do not necessarily have the means to provide after-school enrichment
opportunities for their children. The children are often a minority race and many come from homes where
English is not the primary language spoken in the home. These are the children who would be invited to
join the Ephesus Art Club. Teachers, parents, and the school social worker will be asked to help with the
selection of participants.
The Art teacher at Ephesus Elementary is seeking funds for supplies for an after-school Art Club(she is
volunteering her time). Two sessions are planned, one for six weeks in January and February and another
for six weeks in March and April. Each session will serve 24 students. After the conclusion of the second
six-week session, all students would be invited on a free field trip to the Ackland Art Museum on UNC's
campus where Ackland docents would present an age-appropriate children's program. In addition, all staff
will be invited to an art show at the end of each session. Student work will be displayed in a display case in
the main lobby and in the art room.
Project Goals/Expected Outcomes: The Art Club will have a small student-to-teacher ratio,to allow for
more adult-child attention than in a typical art class. Students will have more materials and more choices
available to them as well. This arrangement will support the formation of positive adult-child relationships
while allowing students to be creative and feel successful in a school setting through their artwork. The
hope is that the Art Club will help the neediest of students feel more involved and accomplished. We
believe that students who want to be at school and like school achieve more,so that is the environment
we aim to create for them.
Measurement of Project Effectiveness: interviews with students and teachers will be conducted after the
sessions to evaluate feelings about school, homework completion, school attendance, and behavior. We
expect to see improvement in one or more areas for at least 80%of the students involved.
