Our vision is to"spark a love of learning in all students". Our mission is"to create opportunities <br /> for students and teachers in every school in the district". <br /> Since its inception in 1981, PSF has distributed more than$5.5 million dollars for innovative programs and <br /> projects that otherwise would not have existed in our schools. It is our continuing mission to play the role <br /> of champion for public education by advocating for positive change to make our schools the very best they <br /> can be. Our ultimate goal is to prepare all of the district's students for lives as successful adults in the 21st <br /> century,which will benefit not only our children,but our entire community. <br /> This is what we believe: <br /> • Every child deserves the best possible education <br /> • Excellent teachers ignite learning <br /> • High quality public education is fundamental to a vibrant community <br /> This is what we do: <br /> • Fund promising, innovative educational practices <br /> • Partner with the community to raise funds that support teachers and students <br /> • Foster opportunities for feedback with teachers and parents <br /> • Manage funds responsibly with the highest degree of ethical standards <br /> Current Programs and Services: <br /> • Award grants to teacher teams or teacher/parent collaborative teams <br /> • Award fund grants for out-of-school learning and enrichment for low income or low/borderline <br /> proficient K-12 students <br /> • Award student scholarships for higher education <br /> • Select recipients for endowed teaching chairs and other awards to teachers and staff who <br /> demonstrate outstanding performance <br /> • Award scholarships for teachers pursuing initial and recertification from the national Board of <br /> Professional Teaching Standards. National Board Certification is a self-initiated, rigorous <br /> certification standard beyond the required State certification. To date, PSF has awarded National <br /> Board Certification scholarships to 193 teachers in our district. <br /> • Award International Teacher Travel Grants to enable selected teachers to travel to foreign <br /> countries to learn the language and culture of the students they teach <br /> • Fund Professional Development Impact grants to address high need areas for improvement at each <br /> school <br /> • Partner with the East Chapel Hill Rotary Club to provide at the beginning of each school year free <br /> school supplies valued at over$30,000 to select teachers throughout our district <br /> • Host grant Writing Workshops to provide guidance on grants and funding resources to teachers <br /> and community members <br /> • Manage restricted and pass-through funds for individual school or district programs, including Blue <br /> Ribbon Mentor Advocate <br />
