DocuSign Envelope ID:7C75BF92-8D1F-4CCA-8FF3-53F903D1C845 <br /> The Soul Street Dance performance ties in with the K-12 dance curriculum in a variety of ways, <br /> including the concepts of movement skills in dance; choreographic principles, structures and <br /> processes to create dance; and cultural, historical and interdisciplinary connections with dance. <br /> In addition, several social studies concepts will be covered during the performance and <br /> interactive component, including an exploration of the diversity of people in the local community, <br /> the influence of cultures on communities, the visible diverse culture in local and regional <br /> communities and the significance of cultural groups. During the interactive piece after the <br /> performance, students will be able to participate in choreographing their own dances, which <br /> brings in math concepts, such as patterns, as well as problem solving. Students also learn <br /> about the human body through movement, which is part of the Science curriculum. <br /> There are 7,506 students in the elementary, middle and high schools of Orange County <br /> Schools, as well as 553 teachers. Of those, there are 3,310 elementary (1,767 male and 1,543 <br /> female), 1,736 middle (907 male and 829 female) and 2,450 high school students (1,247 male <br /> and 1,203 female), all of which live in Hillsborough and Efland. Students in elementary school <br /> are between 5 and 11 years old, middle 11 and 14 years old and high school 14-18 years old. <br /> The following is breakdown of race/ethnicity for Orange County Schools by level. This is the first time, however, that the <br /> committee has opted to fund an outside performer. Funding from the Orange County Arts <br /> Commission will subsidize performer fees to bring Soul Street Dance to Cultural Explosion. <br />
