The fall-winter project held at the Rainey substation has also benefited <br /> from the participation of pupils attending UNC-CH Habitat for Humanity's tutoring program at the substation. <br /> Geography,mix of race,age,and gender: <br /> The Fairview community was annexed into the town of Hillsborough in 1988. Its boundaries have historically been <br /> described north of US 70 West from Rainey Street to Faucette Mill Road;some governmental agencies include an <br /> area south of US 70 West as part of the Fairview neighborhood.Fairview benefits from the presence of both a <br /> county park(Fairview Park)and a community garden sponsored by UNC-Chapel Hill,and a strong neighborhood <br /> association(Fairview Community Watch).Fairview crime rates are significantly higher than surrounding areas of <br /> Hillsborough. The Fairview Community event audiences have been significantly <br /> larger,with numbers of students participating as high as 90(community picnic). Classes have been split more <br /> evenly by gender for community events;in the weekday program,approximately 80%of students are female.Ages <br /> vary from four to 18 years,with most children in the seven to 12 year age group.The children are primarily African <br /> American and Hispanic,with a majority of children at events being African American,and a more even <br /> representation in our weekday classes. <br /> (Please note attached letter of support from Fairview Community Watch Group members,further defining the <br /> population served by this program). <br /> Artists involved: <br /> Please see the attached document listing artists,mediums,and proposed classes for the 2016 calendar year.
