DocuSign Envelope ID:C67D1OAE-118D-40A9-9F56-DE2D32A3FAF5 <br /> Organizational Profile <br /> The Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County(hereafter Historical Foundation)was formed on <br /> May 21,2007 through the merging of two existing groups,the Hillsborough Historical Society and the Orange <br /> County Historical Museum.The Historical Foundation operates the Orange County Historical Museum. <br /> The mission of the Historical Foundation is to enlighten and engage our community and visitors from around the <br /> world by preserving and interpreting the history of Hillsborough and Orange County.Our goals include:operate the <br /> Orange County Historical Museum;collect,preserve,catalog,and house historic artifacts and documents relevant to <br /> Hillsborough and Orange County history;use the Museum's collections as a tool for educating the public about our <br /> history through exhibits,in-house and outreach programs,public lectures,publications,and special events;make <br /> historic documents,artifacts,photographs,and other records available to those researching Hillsborough and Orange <br /> County history;provide support and assistance for historic preservation efforts in Hillsborough and Orange County. <br /> The Orange County Historical Museum was chartered in 1956 and local families donated domestic goods,military <br /> relics,costumes,and furniture from their homes,largely from 18th and 19th centuries,to create the collection.The <br /> museum officially opened on November 10, 1957.The museum was located in the second floor courtroom of the <br /> 1845 courthouse.In 1983,the museum moved out of its original home in the courthouse into its current location,the <br /> Confederate Memorial Building at the corner of Tryon and Churton Streets. <br /> The Hillsborough Historical Society was founded in 1962.The Society published a newsletter from its founding in <br /> 1962 until 1995,when it turned over that responsibility to the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough.It became a <br /> member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in its first year of existence. <br /> Current Programs and Services <br /> 1. Fairview Community Art by the Park <br /> 2. Heritage Education Program(History Fun Days,Colonial Quilt Program,Jr.Curator Program,Scavenger <br /> Hunt through the Museum) <br /> 3. Traveling Trunks(Daily Life, Conflict War and Peace) <br /> 4. Participation in Hillsborough's Last Fridays Art Walks <br /> 5. Creating at least three temporary exhibits each year <br /> 6. Colonial Kids Day and other Family Fun Days <br /> 7. Research of the museum archives <br /> 8. Programs on historical topics,such as the history of West Hillsborough's Mill operations <br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds(including location,date and artists involved): <br /> OCHM will use the$1500 OC Arts Commission grant to purchase art materials for the Art in the Park/Art by the <br /> Park program held at Fairview Park(June-August)and Hillsborough Police Department's Rainey police substation <br /> (September-April). The program is held one afternoon per week. Additional activities are provided for special <br /> community events;this year,art projects were provided for Fairview Park's National Night Out gathering and the <br /> Fairview summer picnic. <br /> Since 2012 the Fairview Community Watch Neighborhood Association has received grant funding from the town of <br /> Hillsborough to employ park monitors for approximately eight weeks from June to August. These monitors are in <br /> place several evenings a week,from 5:00-9:00 pm;they distribute community-owned sports equipment and provide <br /> limited security for park users. Although town commissioners have recoppi7ed the importance of adding recreation <br /> programs to the park program,Art in the Park is the first non-sports program to be held at the park since the <br /> inception of the park monitor program.The program is open year-round to all Orange County residents,with the <br /> The Historical Foundation of Hillsborough&Orange County OCAC Fall Grant 2015 <br />
