Baker, Clerk to the Board-Orange County Board of Commissioners (919) 245- <br /> 2130 or Thom Freeman,Assistant to the Clerk(919) 245-2125 <br /> APPLICANTS NEEDED FOR ORANGE COUNTY FIREARMS SAFETY COMMITTEE <br /> ORANGE COUNTY, NC (March 3, 2016)—One major way residents can have a positive impact on the <br /> future of Orange County is to volunteer to serve on the various advisory boards and commissions. <br /> On February 16, 2016,the Board of County Commissioners(BOCC)voted to create the Orange County <br /> Firearms Safety Committee, modeled after the Orange County Hunting Ordinance work group. On <br /> March 1, 2016 the Board defined the purpose and composition of the committee. <br /> As a newly created Orange County committee there are 8 openings for Orange County <br /> residents. Applicants must be Orange County residents who reside or own property in the <br /> unincorporated areas of Orange County.The committee will include representatives who own and use <br /> firearms and those who do not. <br /> The committee will also include technical staff representing the Orange County Sheriff, N.C. Wildlife <br /> Resources Department, County Manager, a Board of Commissioners' liaison, County Attorney and <br /> County Planning Director. This committee will have a facilitator. <br /> The committee's charge will include, but not necessarily be limited to: discussing the purpose of <br /> additional county firearm regulations, noise, lot size, cost, posting of property signs, and safety <br /> concerns; and reviewing similar ordinances in other counties and advising or recommending to the <br /> BOCC a course of action regarding firearm regulations in the county. <br /> If interested, apply at www.orangecountync.gov/boards . <br /> Applications should be submitted by April 15, 2016 with a proposed appointment by the Board of <br /> Commissioners in early May. <br /> Orange County strives for diversity on volunteer advisory boards.
