1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: May 17, 2016 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 11-a <br /> SUBJECT: Appointments to the Orange County Firearms Safety Committee <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): Under Separate Cover INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Public Service Announcement 03/03/2016 Clerk's Office -919-245-2130 <br /> Member Roster <br /> Applicant Interest List <br /> Applications for Persons on the Interest <br /> List <br /> PURPOSE: The Board will consider making/confirming appointments to the Orange County <br /> Firearms Safety Committee. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Board of Commissioners created the Orange County <br /> Firearms Safety Committee at their regular meeting on March 1, 2016. <br /> The charge for the Firearms Safety Committee would include, but not necessarily be limited to: <br /> • discuss the purpose of additional County firearm regulations, noise, property size, cost, <br /> posting of property signs, and safety concerns; and <br /> • look at similar ordinances in other counties and to advise (or recommend) to the BOCC <br /> regarding a course of action regarding firearm regulations in the County. <br /> The Work Group is directed to submit recommendations back to the Board of County <br /> Commissioners at a future meeting. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is a contract with the Dispute Settlement Center for the meeting <br /> facilitator, Andy Sachs, at a rate of $125/hour, including but not limited to travel expenses, <br /> preparation, planning, consultations, meeting set-up, follow-up, meetings, process evaluation, <br /> and contract management. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends for the Board to make/confirm <br /> appointments to the Orange County Firearms Safety Committee and to choose a BOCC Liaison <br /> to this committee. <br />
