3 <br /> 1 The Board will consider approving a resolution honoring and recognizing Norman <br /> 2 Francis Gustaveson for his devotion and service to the people of Orange County, and authorize <br /> 3 the Chair to sign the resolution. <br /> 4 Commissioner Jacobs said former Commissioner Gustaveson's wife Nancy, son Eric, <br /> 5 and granddaughter Anna, with husband Daniel, are in attendance this evening. <br /> 6 Commissioner Jacobs said three former Commissioners are also present: Former <br /> 7 Commissioners Insko, Crowther and Willhoit. <br /> 8 Commissioner Jacobs read the resolution: <br /> 9 <br /> 10 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 11 <br /> 12 RESOLUTION HONORING <br /> 13 NORMAN FRANCIS GUSTAVESON <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS, the residents of Orange County elected Norman Francis Gustaveson to the Board <br /> 16 of County Commissioners in 1974 and re-elected him in 1978; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, Mr. Gustaveson continually demonstrated himself to be a dedicated and effective <br /> 19 public servant, and a man of empathy and insight, who gained the respect of all who knew him <br /> 20 in both the public and private sectors; and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 WHEREAS, during his tenure as an Orange County Commissioner, Norman Gustaveson <br /> 23 shared his talent for leadership and public service through his work on numerous committees, <br /> 24 boards, and task forces focusing on social justice, land conservation, the environment, and <br /> 25 energy conservation; and <br /> 26 <br /> 27 WHEREAS, Mr. Gustaveson played a key role as a member of the "Shaping Orange County's <br /> 28 Future" task force; and <br /> 29 <br /> 30 WHEREAS, he was a willing volunteer on County committees subsequent to his terms in <br /> 31 elected office, notably the Innovation and Efficiency Committee; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, he was a lifelong scholar and social advocate leaving significant contributions <br /> 34 across the University of North Carolina campus; and <br /> 35 <br /> 36 WHEREAS, he was a charter member of the Triangle Land Conservancy Board and was also <br /> 37 an Emeritus member of the Eno River Association; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners, on <br /> 40 behalf of County officials and employees and the residents of Orange County, honors Norman <br /> 41 Francis Gustaveson and expresses deep appreciation, gratitude and respect for his service to <br /> 42 the County over the course of his life. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 This the 19th day of April 2016. <br /> 45 <br /> 46 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Rich for the <br /> 47 Board to approve, and authorize the Chair to sign, the attached resolution honoring Norman <br /> 48 Francis Gustaveson and recognizing his service to the people of Orange County. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 3 <br />
