15 <br /> ❖ Piedmont Electric <br /> o Improved security, bandwidth, throughput, network services <br /> Commissioner Rich asked for updates on the Hot Spot project. <br /> Jim Northrup, Chief Information Officer, said there are 15 units and it has been a very <br /> successful pilot. He said there are plans to expand this project. He said there is a partnership <br /> with the schools, and Hot Spots have been made available to families that receive free or <br /> reduced meals. He said additional partnerships are being pursued. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs asked Jim Northup to look at roaming technology for schools. <br /> Travis Myren resumed the presentation: <br /> Information Technology and Communications <br /> • BOCC Technology Initiatives - $50,000: Page 35 <br /> o Potential to fund technology projects not included in department requests or <br /> new, unexpected opportunities during the fiscal year <br /> Information Technology and Communications <br /> • Communication System Improvements - $166,000: Page 52 <br /> o Completes replacement of radios for Emergency Services <br /> ❖ Outfit all vehicles with dual band radios (800Mhz and VHF) <br /> ❖ Create a small inventory of backup radios in the event of a <br /> disaster <br /> o Sheriff Radios scheduled for replacement in FY 2017-18 ($920,000) <br /> Critical Infrastructure Improvements <br /> • Hardened 911 Center- $980,000: Page 55 <br /> o Provides primary hardened facility at Meadowlands site <br /> o Approved equipment and installation is eligible for funding by 911 Board <br /> Hardened 911 Center at Current Site <br /> Jeff Thompson presented the following slides: <br /> Critical Infrastructure Improvements <br /> • Southern Human Services Center — $300,000: Page 30 <br /> o Facility vision study is currently underway focused on Health and Social <br /> Services <br /> o Construction funds recommended in FY2017-18 ($5,185,000) <br /> Southern Human Services Master Plan <br /> Jeff Thompson said this is the design phase for Phase 1 of the master plan. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said there was supposed to be an annual update on moving <br /> dental services to Hillsborough. He asked if the Health Director could provide an update <br /> regarding access to services. <br /> Bonnie Hammersley said the Health Director has reported growth at the Hillsborough <br /> facilities, but an update can be secured. <br /> Chair McKee said there is a proposal to put a veteran's memorial on the knoll in the <br /> front property. He asked if the road will impinge on the memorial. <br />
