He said he also does not support $300,000 to pursue a plan as he <br /> feels it is committing to an unnecessary project. <br /> Commissioner Burroughs asked if the rationale for moving the project forward could be <br /> explained by someone who served on the space committee. <br /> Chair McKee said he served on that committee but did not speak out at that time as the <br /> committee was not making decisions. He said Commissioner Price also served on the Space <br /> Study committee. <br /> Commissioner Price said the argument was made that the building is old and would <br /> need renovations at some point, whether sooner or later. She said her greater concern was <br /> that the services remain co-located. She said if a new building were proposed, she would <br /> support having it on the same parcel of land. <br /> Jeff Thompson said context is important, and a submission was made for a new HVAC <br /> system and roof a few years ago. He said at that time, the submission was denied, and a new <br /> location favored. He said he believes the current location is excellent, and he would support <br /> maintaining it with either a new building or renovation of the current one. <br /> Commissioner Burroughs said the two options are to spend $1 million now and get a <br /> few more years of life or spend $3 million in the coming year and get a lot more years. <br /> Jeff Thompson said the larger investment would offer greater energy efficiency as well <br /> as greater space efficiency. <br /> Commissioner Burroughs said she appreciates Chair McKee's points but would support <br /> the larger investment. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs agreed with Commissioner Burroughs and said this is going to <br /> be an extensive cost benefit analysis which seems sensible.
