ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: September 6, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. '-4-C <br />SUBJECT: Jail Inspection Report <br />DEPARTMENT: Sheriff <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />July 17, 2007 Letter from <br />John Harkins <br />Jail Inspection Report <br />Letter from Sheriff to Gina Wooten <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Lindy Pendergrass 245-2900 <br />PURPOSE: To receive the jail inspection report for July 10, 2007 from the North Carolina <br />Department of Health and Human Services. <br />BACKGROUND: The General Statutes require the Board of County Commissioners to receive <br />and take necessary corrective action to the semi-annual jail inspection reports submitted by the <br />North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The statute further states that the <br />governing body shall promptly initiate any action necessary to bring jail facilities into conformity <br />to standards. The report for July 10, 2007 is enclosed for review and indicates Orange County's <br />compliance with standards. <br />The attached letter details the Sheriff's response to the findings of the report. The shower floor <br />repair work as noted in the Sheriff's letter will begin the week of September 4, 2007. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with accepting the report. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board of Commissioners <br />receive the report. Corrective action is being taken as required.
