Public Safety Telecommunications Week <br /> 2 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing the week of April 10 through 16, 2016 <br /> 3 as Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to <br /> 4 sign. <br /> 5 Chair McKee publicly commended Interim Emergency Services Director, Dinah Jeffries; <br /> 6 the Sheriff; and all public safety officials involved in insuring safety after the NCAA <br /> 7 Championship game. <br /> 8 Dinah Jeffries thanked Chair McKee for his comments and also commended her staff <br /> 9 for their efforts. She said Orange County has a superior commitment to public safety. <br /> 10 Kevin Medlin, Interim 9-1-1 Communications Operations Manager, read the <br /> 11 proclamation: <br /> 12 <br /> 13 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 14 PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATIONS WEEK 2016 <br /> 15 A PROCLAMATION <br /> 16 <br /> 17 WHEREAS, Thousands of dedicated Telecommunicators daily serve the residents of the United <br /> 18 States and Canada by answering their telephone calls for law enforcement, fire, and emergency <br /> 19 medical services by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as possible; and <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators are the link between those residents who call for <br /> 22 help and the agencies which provide the help; and <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, The critical functions performed by professional Telecommunicators impact all <br /> 25 aspects of public safety and include those performed by forestry and conservation operations, <br /> 26 highway safety and maintenance activities, and many other operations performed by federal, <br /> 27 state and local government agencies; and <br /> 28 <br /> 29 WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators work to improve the emergency response <br /> 30 capabilities of these communication systems through their leadership and participation in <br /> 31 training programs and other activities provided by the Association of Public Safety <br /> 32 Communications Officials - International and the National Emergency Number Association; and <br /> 33 <br /> 34 WHEREAS, These associations are organizations of more than 100,000 people engaged in the <br /> 35 design, installation and operation of emergency response communications that have set aside <br /> 36 the week beginning April 10, 2016 to recognize Telecommunicators and their crucial role in the <br /> 37 protection of life and property; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the <br /> 40 week of April 10-16, 2016 as "Public Safety Telecommunications Week" in Orange County, <br /> 41 North Carolina, in honor and recognition of our County's Telecommunicators and the vital <br /> 42 contributions they make to the safety and well being of our residents, those passing through our <br /> 43 county and our public safety providers. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 Adopted this 5th day of April 2016. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the <br /> 48 Board to approve the proclamation recognizing the week of April 10 through 16, 2016 as Public <br /> 49 Safety Telecommunications Week in Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the <br /> 50 proclamation. <br />
