Public Safety Telecommunications Week 2 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing the week of April 10 through 16, 2016 3 as Public Safety Telecommunications Week in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to 4 sign. 5 Chair McKee publicly commended Interim Emergency Services Director, Dinah Jeffries; 6 the Sheriff; and all public safety officials involved in insuring safety after the NCAA 7 Championship game. 8 Dinah Jeffries thanked Chair McKee for his comments and also commended her staff 9 for their efforts. She said Orange County has a superior commitment to public safety. 10 Kevin Medlin, Interim 9-1-1 Communications Operations Manager, read the 11 proclamation: 12 13 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS 14 PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATIONS WEEK 2016 15 A PROCLAMATION 16 17 WHEREAS, Thousands of dedicated Telecommunicators daily serve the residents of the United 18 States and Canada by answering their telephone calls for law enforcement, fire, and emergency 19 medical services by dispatching the appropriate assistance as quickly as possible; and 20 21 WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators are the link between those residents who call for 22 help and the agencies which provide the help; and 23 24 WHEREAS, The critical functions performed by professional Telecommunicators impact all 25 aspects of public safety and include those performed by forestry and conservation operations, 26 highway safety and maintenance activities, and many other operations performed by federal, 27 state and local government agencies; and 28 29 WHEREAS, Professional Telecommunicators work to improve the emergency response 30 capabilities of these communication systems through their leadership and participation in 31 training programs and other activities provided by the Association of Public Safety 32 Communications Officials - International and the National Emergency Number Association; and 33 34 WHEREAS, These associations are organizations of more than 100,000 people engaged in the 35 design, installation and operation of emergency response communications that have set aside 36 the week beginning April 10, 2016 to recognize Telecommunicators and their crucial role in the 37 protection of life and property; 38 39 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the 40 week of April 10-16, 2016 as "Public Safety Telecommunications Week" in Orange County, 41 North Carolina, in honor and recognition of our County's Telecommunicators and the vital 42 contributions they make to the safety and well being of our residents, those passing through our 43 county and our public safety providers. 44 45 Adopted this 5th day of April 2016. 46 47 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Price for the 48 Board to approve the proclamation recognizing the week of April 10 through 16, 2016 as Public 49 Safety Telecommunications Week in Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the 50 proclamation.
