National County Government Month in Orange County <br /> 14 The Board considered a proclamation recognizing April 2016 as National County <br /> 15 Government Month in Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br /> 16 Laurie Paolicelli, Orange County Community Relations Director, read the proclamation: <br /> 17 <br /> 18 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 19 Proclamation <br /> 20 National County Government Month -April 2016 "Safe and Secure Counties" <br /> 21 <br /> 22 WHEREAS, the nation's 3,069 counties serving more than 300 million Americans provide <br /> 23 essential services to create healthy, safe, vibrant and economically resilient communities; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 WHEREAS, Orange County and all counties take pride in our responsibility to protect and <br /> 26 enhance the health, well-being and safety of our residents in efficient and cost-effective ways; <br /> 27 and <br /> 28 <br /> 29 WHEREAS, through National Association of Counties (NACo) President Sallie Clark's "Safe <br /> 30 and Secure Counties" initiative, NACo is encouraging counties to focus on strengthening the <br /> 31 safety and security of their communities; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, in order to remain healthy, vibrant, safe, and economically competitive, America's <br /> 34 counties provide public health, justice, emergency management and economic services that <br /> 35 play a key role in everything from residents' daily health to disaster response; and <br /> 36 <br /> 37 WHEREAS, each year since 1991 the National Association of Counties has encouraged <br /> 38 counties across the country to actively promote programs and services to the public we serve; <br /> 39 <br /> 40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 41 does hereby proclaim April 2016 as National County Government Month and encourage all <br /> 42 County officials, employees, schools and residents to participate in the Orange County <br /> 43 Government Expo activities on Friday, April 8, 2016. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier for <br /> 46 the Board to approve the proclamation recognizing April as National County Government Month <br /> 47 in Orange County and authorized the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 48 <br /> 49 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 50 <br />
