She said staff is working to bring forth a more <br /> objective process with stated criteria. <br /> Commissioner Rich said she is not fond of random merit awards. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said he is confident that Brenda Bartholomew and the Manager <br /> will come up with a less arbitrary process to address this issue. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier asked if other counties have as many pay grades as Orange <br /> County. <br /> Brenda Bartholomew said Orange County is not an unusual county, but may be on the <br /> high end of a comparison. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said in order to change pay grades, one must have one's <br /> position reclassified. She asked if grades could have different categories within them, so that <br /> salary increases could occur without reclassification. <br /> Brenda Bartholomew said her office may be looking at collapsing two pay grades into <br /> one, as well as some other options, all of which is currently being studied in detail. <br /> 3.
