14 <br /> i <br /> School Food Waste and Organic Waste Collection <br /> The County Is interested In collecting the food and organic waste generated at each school's cafeteria <br /> in the County's two school distitcts, Orange County Public Schools and Chapel City <br /> Schools. County Public Schools have seven elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools. Chapel Hill — Carrboro City Schools have ten elementary schools,four middle <br /> -schools, and three high schools. . <br /> Within the next two years the County mmy,wohabUoh a pilot program to determine the capability o <br /> f a <br /> comprehensive schools food waste and organic waste collection program. The details of this pilot <br /> program will be determined with thp assistance of the selected service provider. Nevertheless, this <br /> program may begin at one or two schools In each district and may include a combination of <br /> elementary, middle and high schools. The pilot program will evaluate the effectiveness of the overall <br /> program Including, education and outreach and whether it,will include onlypr� �onou[ne[V[also post <br /> consumer content. <br /> • <br /> . ` � <br /> It SCOPE OF WORK <br /> . . <br /> | <br /> A. Service Area and Location <br /> Service area includes all of Orange County' and that part of the Town of Chapel Hill that lies within <br /> Durham County. See Attachment A for a table of current costumers. In Oenora|, a. <br /> business in this program Is expected to generate a mInimum of two tons of food and organic waste per <br /> month, though exceptions may.bo made based on mutual agreement of County and Contractor. The <br /> County and the contractor may mutually agree-to.reduce the number of service locations, if a site is not <br /> performing or repeatedly contaminates the organics stream . <br /> [\. Material Collected <br /> Materials collected by the contractormust include food waste and any other organic material that can be <br /> separated by the generator for collection except large amounts of yard waste, industrial waste such as <br /> sludges or regulated wastes such as medical wastes. Foed Waste may be prep waste or post consumer <br /> waste including vegetables,fruits, meats, and grains.
