RES-2016-023 2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF <br /> THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE <br /> NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlotte City Council, on February 21, 2016, approved amendments <br /> to the city's Non-Discrimination Ordinance; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Council added marital and familial status, sexual orientation, gender <br /> expression and gender identity to the list of protected characteristics in the <br /> existing Non-Discrimination Ordinance; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Code of Ordinances currently prohibits discrimination <br /> based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, familial <br /> status, and veteran status; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County supports a community where all people are treated fairly, <br /> valued and accepted; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County stands with those who struggle against social injustice; <br /> and, <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County supports the right of local governments to articulate their <br /> own community values of inclusion without interference or suppression by <br /> the General Assembly; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> does hereby support the Non-Discrimination Policy implemented by the <br /> Charlotte City Council and join them in striving for social justice for all. <br /> This the 22nd day of March 2016 <br /> Earl McKee, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
