Students will study poetry
reflective of the Civil Rights Movement (and how it relates to music) and then write their own
poetry, which will then connect to the show, "Sankofa: African American Music From Spirituals
to Hip Hop."
Students at Partnership Academy will participate in a five-day residency focused on literacy and
character education through improvisation thus allowing them to experience self-growth in an
enjoyable and safe environment. It improves self-confidence by allowing participants to notice
their emotions, capabilities and behaviors. In addition, it teaches students how to work together
collaboratively and effectively communicate with others.
In addition to the residencies outlined above, classroom teachers will also participate in
professional development workshops (at least one per year)where they will learn new
strategies for using the arts as a vehicle for instruction. Principals and school leadership teams
will choose the specific curriculum and art foci for the workshops. The workshops support
teachers, providing them with tools and resources to incorporate arts integration into their daily
instruction.
The following is a breakdown of demographic information per school:
Central New Hope Efland-Cheeks Partnership
Elementary Elementary Elementary Academy
Race/ Hispanic:47 Hispanic:280 Hispanic: 115 Hispanic:2 Hispanic:444
Ethnicity African- African-American: African-American: African- African-American:
American: 121 58 112 American: 13 304
White: 138 White:243 White: 194 White: 13 White:588
Multi-Racial: 15 Multi-Racial :24 Multi-Racial:20 Multi-Racial: 1 Multi-Racial :60
Asian:7 Asian: 18 American Indian: Asian:25
American Indian: 1 1 American Indian:2
Hawaiian Pacific:3 Hawaiian Pacific:3
Age 5-11 5-11 - - - 5-11 - 12-18 - ----5-18
Gender Male: 178 Male:338 Male:227 Male: 15 Male:758
Female: 143 Female:278 Female:232 Female: 15 Female:668
Special EC: 35 EC: 106 EC:48 EC:O EC: 189
Services AIG: 15 AIG:22 AIG: 15 AIG:0 AIG:52
ESL:20 ESL: 180 ESL:64 ESL: 1 ESL:265
Central Elementary, through a partnership with The ArtsCenter and Orange County Schools,
has participated in this program since 2008.
