King, Jr." <br /> Artist- Virginia Queen 646.765.4630 vrgueen @g aii®con-, <br /> Art Focus- Theatre/Creative Movement <br /> Residency Description <br /> In connection with the performance, "The Struggle for Freedom: The Life of <br /> Dr. Martin L. King, Jr." and with the themes of Equality, Courage, Hope <br /> and Determination, students will explore theatre and creative movement <br /> activities while enhancing their creative expression, performance skills, self- <br /> esteem and cooperation with others. Through drama games, scripts, <br /> improvisations, and creative movement, students will delve into the Civil <br /> Rights Movement. They will explore people and events from this time <br /> period that brought about positive change such as Rosa Parks and the March <br /> on Washington and many more key moments that shaped both the <br /> Movement and our Country. The drama exercises and improvisations will <br /> also focus on imagination, play production etiquette and fundamentals, and <br /> performance techniques. On the final day, students will have an open class <br /> sharing a culmination of their work. <br /> Goals <br /> I would like to inspire students creative expression and confidence while not <br /> only teaching them theatre techniques, but also helping them to realize the <br /> power they themselves have to impact the world for future generations. <br /> Curriculum Standards Met Social Studies, Language Arts, Theatre Arts <br /> and Character Education <br /> Residency Dates <br /> A planning session and five residency dates will be scheduled for each class. <br /> Class times <br /> Each class will have a 45 min-1 hour session each day of the residency. <br />
