DocuSign Envelope ID: FF904CCC-8943-46A2-B042-006AF1407ED4 During residencies, I maintain close working relationships with classroom teachers by sending weekly(and sometimes daily) emails informing teachers of upcoming projects,materials,themes, and any other information integral to our time together. I encourage my partner teachers to email, text, or call with any and all questions,concerns, or suggestions,believing that good communication is the key to a successful residency. I have many years of experience using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS)with students as well as creating and teaching STEAM-focused lessons for students of various ages. My experience training teachers includes mentoring first and second year art educators;providing professional development workshops at the North Carolina Museum of Art's Educators'Night Out events;running smaller workshops to teach Pre-K teachers how to include more fine art and art history in their curricula; and contributing to larger retreat-type workshops focused on teaching educators to develop art-rich,interdisciplinary lessons for use in their classrooms. I am skilled at differentiating lessons to meet the needs of all learners and have had four years of experience teaching students with mild to severe special needs in self-contained classroom settings as well as in integrated,regular education settings. I have created a number of interdisciplinary art lessons utilizing community resources and institutions (e.g. The Buffalo Holocaust Museum,Albright Knox Art Gallery, University of Notre Dame Kellogg Institute for International Studies, South Bend Museum of Art,Duke University's Literacy Through Photography, Carolina Ballet, Marbles Kid's Museum, etc.)often in collaboration with teacher colleagues in other disciplines. I maintain a solid understanding of theories in art education,pedagogy, child development, art history and criticism,learning models and child psychology and often attend national conferences to improve my teaching craft. While in public and private schools,I created ongoing,rotating displays of student art throughout the school year in the school halls, entryways, school administrative offices, and district administrative offices. At the end of each school year, I organized and put on all-school,multi-floor art show involving at least two to three pieces of art per student and open to the entire school community. (On more than one occasion local television and newspaper crews were in attendance and made public our school's event.)While at The Carrboro ArtsCenter and the NCMA,I created end-of-program art shows for parents and artists,including two large format art shows at Marbles Kids Museum. While teaching full-time in public and privates schools(before having children!) I created and ran after school Art Clubs meeting one day a week for an hour. Every year this club was filled to capacity. While teaching K-8,I entered middle school students in the annual Scholastic Art and Writing competition. Each year, a number of my students were accepted into the regional,juried art show and each year at least one of my students won gold and went on to compete nationally in New York City. Twice,my students have won national gold prizes and their art was displayed in Carnegie Hall. While at public/private schools,I participated in all-school projects and publications such as: poetry/art anthology, school yearbook, set-design for school plays/musicals, author visits,fund- raisers and charity projects, art for assemblies and special events. 2
