ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: August 21, 2007 <br />Action Agen a <br />Item No. ° ~ <br />SUBJECT: Agreement Renewal Between Health Department, the UNC School of Dentistry <br />and UNC Hospitals for Dental Resident <br />DEPARTMENT: Health PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Agreement Rosemary Summers, 245-2411 <br />PURPOSE: To consider renewing the agreement between the Health Department and the <br />UNC School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals for dental resident services. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange County Health Department (OCHD) annually contracts with the <br />UNC School of Dentistry and UNC Hospitals for the services of one full-time equivalent dental <br />resident for four and one-half days a week. The resident provides services at both the <br />Hillsborough and the Carrboro dental clinics and provides services to approximately 1,650 <br />patients per year. <br />The total cost of the agreement renewal for July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008 is $50,267. <br />This funding was included in the 2007-2008 departmental budget that was approved in June <br />2007. This item was not scheduled for Board consideration prior to-July 1, 2007 due to <br />concerns regarding potential actions by the NC General Assembly and potential impacts of the <br />State budget. Staff has since determined that there were no actions. at the State level which <br />would delay proceeding with this contract. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total cost of the agreement renewal is $50,267 for the fiscal year <br />2007-2008. This covers the cost of the salary and fringe benefits for the resident. There are <br />sufficient funds approved in the 2008 fiscal year budget for the department to cover this cost. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the agreement <br />renewal and authorize the Chair to sign the agreement. <br />
