41
1 Dear Orange County Board of Commissioners,
2
3 I am writing to urge you to vote against the proposed amendment regarding regulating the
4 discharge of firearms.
5
6 A review of the agenda abstract for your February 16th meeting has left me shocked and
7 dismayed that such an unfair amendment would even make it to a vote! The restriction
8 regarding the hours during which one can discharge a firearm alone is tantamount to gun
9 control, not to mention the back stop requirements or the space requirements. You are in
10 effect making legal gun owners criminals for discharging firearms on their own property, even if
11 said discharge is done in a completely safe and controlled manner.
12
13 Surely, our elected officials on the Board of Commissioners will see the unfairness and
14 ridiculous nature of this amendment and make the right decision and reject it outright. The
15 average property owner has neither the square footage/acreage nor the means (financial or
16 otherwise) to construct a 15 foot high barrier as stipulated in the amendment. Our own Sheriff
17 Blackwood also took objection with the nature of these examples I pointed our as evidenced by
18 the email attached to the agenda and I trust that the Board will follow suit and vote "No" on
19 Tuesday night.
20
21 Thanks very much for your time and consideration.
22
23 Sincerely,
24 Alan Forrest
25 Hillsborough, NC
26
27
28 Dear Orange County Commissioners,
29
30 I hope everyone is doing well and making it through the wintry weather without incident.
31
32 It is with great concern that I come to you regarding the proposed ordinance and above
33 amendment regulating the discharge of firearms that is scheduled to be voted on during the
34 above meeting.
35
36 I am a landowner of almost 14 acres and occasionally discharge guns for the fun of it, target
37 practice for my kids and/or practice for my wife. With the proposed ordinance, I am certain that
38 I would be in violation, considering it's an every other weekend occurrence for my family this
39 time of year, and even more often when the weather is nice. Especially when considering the
40 proposed guidelines about x feet from here and x feet from there.
41
42 I have not had one complaint from any of my neighbors. Not one. Nor have there been ANY
43 negative impacts, injuries or mishaps.
44
45 The idea that the ENTIRE county of tax paying, land/home owners should be "punished" due to
46 one individuals irresponsibility is not a practical, or reasonable approach.
47
48 The very fact that this proposal is just making it's way to the citizens of Orange County is also
49 very concerning and, as a result, I feel should it be tabled until rational thought can be applied —
50 at the least, and then, ultimately, rejected.
