ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: August 21, 2007
Action Agenda
Item No. __~
SUBJECT: Acceptance of US Soccer Foundation Grant for the West Ten Soccer Center
DEPARTMENT: Recreation and Parks PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
Grant Agreement Lori Taft, 245-2660
PURPOSE: To consider acceptance of a grant award in.the amount of $50,000 from the US
Soccer Foundation for the West Ten Soccer Center project in the amount of $50,000.
BACKGROUND: In the winter of 2007, staff applied for a field enhancement grant from the US
Soccer Foundation. Notice was provided in March that the application had been successful and
that the Foundation proposed to award Orange County a combined grant. The $50,000 value
would be provided in materials from Hunter Irrigation needed for the project, with the remainder
to be provided in cash. The estimated value of the Hunter products needed is $15,000. The
balance of $35,000 could be used to assist in covering other development costs. The draft
agreement was developed in the ensuing months and the attached version made available for
the County's consideration.
The Soccer Center development is underway and on schedule, the Board having .awarded the
field development contract in June. Staff expects to return to the Board in September for
authorization to award the contract for the restroom facility, field lighting, parking, etc, which will
complete the project. The target for opening the park remains at the end of the summer of
2008.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Approval of this grant will effectively save $50,000 in costs for the
project.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board authorize the Manager to
sign the Field Enhancement Grant Agreement, pending any final review by staff and the County
Attorney, and accept the $50,000 grant for the West Ten Soccer Center project.
