Bryan said the Board spent a great deal of its efforts on the grants process. <br /> Commissioner Rich asked if those who did not receive a grant are being encouraged to <br /> reapply. <br /> D.R. Bryan said yes. <br /> • Historic Preservation Commission (HPC): Susan Ballard, Chair <br /> Peter Sandbeck, Orange County Cultural Resources Coordinator, reviewed the <br /> following highlights: <br /> o Applied for and received a second federal grant of$5,000 to continue a major <br /> project to update the County's historic resources inventory in partnership with the <br /> State Historic Preservation Office. This includes GIS mapping, digital photography, <br /> research and written text for the HPC's planned publication documenting the <br /> county's historic properties. (2015) <br /> o Completed in 2015 the first phase of a multi-year project to update the County's <br /> historic resources inventory with a focus on African-American, agricultural/farm <br /> heritage sites and post-World War II resources. This will culminate in a new <br /> publication documenting our historic properties and sites. The HPC obtained a <br /> federal grant of$15,000 from the State Historic Preservation Office, through the <br /> Certified Local Government (CLG) program. <br /> o Designated two new properties as Orange County Local Historic Landmarks: White <br /> Cross School in White Cross and the Nicholas Corbett Hester House in Cedar <br /> Grove. (2015) <br /> o Held a successful piedmont regional history symposium in partnership with <br /> Preservation Chapel Hill and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough (2014) <br /> o Hosted a historic preservation training workshop for piedmont region city and <br /> county historic preservation and planning staffers, in partnership with the State <br /> Historic Preservation Office and the Certified Local Government Program (2014) <br /> o Held a full membership retreat to review goals and establish a new five-year action <br /> plan to focus the energies of the HPC on a series of major projects and initiatives <br /> (2013) <br /> o Completed an archaeological survey (Phase II) of Hollow Rock Access Area (New <br /> Hope Creek Preserve) to further identify Native American sites, with funding <br /> assistance from a $15,000 federal grant through the State Historic Preservation <br /> Office (2013) <br /> o Designated the Captain John S. Pope Farm in Cedar Grove as an Orange County <br /> Local Landmark (2013) <br /> o Convened the Orange County Historic Preservation Summit (May 2012) involving <br /> 10 organizations (historic commissions and non-profits) from the county and <br /> municipalities <br />
