Passmore, Ext. 2009 Certified Statement TELEPHONE NUMBER- Hillsborough - 732-8181 Chapel Hill - 968-4501 Mebane - 227-2031 Durham - 688-7331 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ PURPOSE: To apply for $7,556 in special state funds to promote rural general public transportation and enter into an agreement with the NC Department of Transportation for FY 94-95. BACKGROUND: Orange County Commissioners approved an updated Transpor- tation Development Plan (TDP) on January 22, 1991 which recognized C.A.T. as a Section 18 rural general public system. Orange County is eligible for special state funds to subsidize existing C.A.T. routes in order to reduce the cost for general public riders. In addition to the C.A.T. Express shuttle, three senior citizen daily routes have been identified as available for public ridership. NC Department of Transportation will reimburse C.A.T. on a per trip basis. The purpose of the funds is to encourage Section 18 programs to expand service to the public in addition to human services agency clients. The state funds will supplement county funds that support the transportation routes. The Orange County Human Services Transportation Board reviewed the plan for rural general public transportation at its April 26 meeting. RECOMMENDATION(S) : Manager recommends approval and Chair to sign the Certified Statement of participation in the Rural General Public Program.
