10) Owners of the Durham Farm, Gerry and Milton Durham, have submitted an application to <br /> enroll five (5) parcels of land totaling 197.56 acres as qualifying farmland for the Voluntary <br /> Agricultural District (VAD) program in the White Cross Agricultural District. The farm operation <br /> includes a beef cattle operation, pastures, hay crops and managed woodland. The Durham farm <br /> has been evaluated against each of the VAD certification requirement standards and meets or <br /> exceeds all of the measures above. <br /> Requesting approval from Commissioners to accept ten (10) farms into the program plus an <br /> ownership revision for one (1) farm. <br /> • 1325* acres in the VAD <br /> • 530* acres in the EVAD. <br /> • If approved, total of acres increase in both programs: 1855* acres <br /> • * = rounded acres <br /> December 2015 <br /> • VAD = 8536 acres <br /> • EVAD = 1859 acres <br /> Total Acres = 10,395* <br /> * = rounded acres <br /> Commissioner Price thanked Ms. Hughes for getting so many farmers in these programs <br /> to be able to preserve their agricultural heritage. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said she would like a letter from the Chair on behalf of the Board <br /> to be sent to all of the participants. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier asked if there is a process for what happens after 10 years. <br /> Gail Hughes said the VAD has an automatic renewal after 10 years, and the EVAD has <br /> a three renewal, after the first 10 years. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Rich for the <br /> Board to certify the ten (10) farm properties noted above totaling 1,325 acres (VAD) and 530 <br /> acres (EVAD) (rounded acreage) as denoted in the attached documentation as qualifying <br /> farmland; designate the farms as a Voluntary or Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District farm <br /> within the Caldwell, Cane Creek/Buckhorn, High Rock/Efland, New Hope/Hillsborough, <br /> Schley/Eno, and White Cross Voluntary Agricultural Districts; and enroll the lands in the Orange <br /> County Voluntary Agricultural District (VAD) and the Enhanced Voluntary Agricultural District <br /> (EVAD) programs. With approval of these additional acres, the Orange County Voluntary <br /> Agricultural District Program will have enrolled 70 farms, totaling 8,536 acres in the VAD and <br /> 1,859 acres in the EVAD, for a total of 10,395 acres (rounded) in the program. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> c.
