DocuSign Envelope ID:7F60E54E-C475-4A87-8A4B-CBC487C92B77 <br /> ATTACHMENT 1 <br /> BLACKWOOD FARM ARCHAEOLOGY AT SLAVE CEMETERY <br /> Scope of Work <br /> Historical and Archaeological Investigations at the Blackwood Farm Slave Cemetery(Site 31 ORS80) <br /> Prepared for Orange County Department of Environment,Agriculture, Parks and Recreation (DEAPR) <br /> Prepared by Legacy Research Associates, Durham, NC <br /> 14 January 2016 <br /> This scope of work is for historical and archaeological investigations to document marked and <br /> unmarked graves located at a slave cemetery located at Blackwood Farm Park in Orange County, The <br /> property is owned by Orange County and is managed by DEAPR. <br /> The proposed work is to conduct an intensive archaeological survey of the entire cemetery site to <br /> determine the number graves/burials and to determine the boundaries of the cemetery. The purpose <br /> of the work is to facilitate site stabilization and interpretation. Techniques will include close-interval <br /> proving to identify the size and orientation of each burial <br /> Project tasks will include the following. <br /> • Supervise DEAPR staff during tree and vegetation removal activities. <br /> • Conduct close-interval probing at the cemetery to identify and delineate unmarked graves. <br /> • Conduct close-interval probing at known (marked) graves to determine size and orientation. <br /> • Identify each marked and unmarked grave (head and foot) with pin flags. <br /> • Establish and mark the entire cemetery with flagging tape at selected locations around the <br /> cemetery perimeter and buffer zone that can be used by DEAPR to identify a possible fencing <br /> location or other boundary demarcation. <br /> • Map the entire cemetery with a Total Station. <br /> • Photograph grave markers that are keyed to the site plan. <br /> • Conduct additional historic research of the cemetery. <br /> • Prepare a report of the investigations including a detailed map of the cemetery. <br /> Project deliverables will include the following. <br /> • Provide highly accurate digital map and hard-copy map of all burials and any other notable <br /> features at the cemetery using a Trimble GPS unit with sub-meter accuracy. <br /> • Provide GIS shapefiles of site mapping. <br /> • Provide a high-quality pdf format of site mapping suitable for reproduction in a proposed <br /> interpretative panel for the cemetery. <br /> • Submit two hard copies of the final report plus a digital version to DEAPR and one of each <br /> version to OSA including an updated archaeological site form/cemetery form. <br /> DEAPR will provide the following. <br /> • Remove fallen trees and limbs from the cemetery and clear away any other trees in the vicinity <br /> of the cemetery, as directed by the archaeologist. <br /> • Clear leaves and vegetation to permit all existing fieldstone headstones or footstones to be <br /> seen clearly. <br />
