Environmental Health Technician <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br />o Provides in-office consultation and face-to-face education for residents with <br />questions regarding water samples, water treatment, and indoor air quality. <br />o Assists citizens with general environmental health complaints, depending on <br />nature of complaint, may verify and refer to the appropriate agency. <br />o Enters data into and help maintain manual and electronic files and databases. <br />o Provides limited backup duties to administrative support staff and to the water <br />Environmental Health Specialist. <br />o Makes own daily schedule of appointments, sets daily priorities and balances <br />workload within the workweek <br />o Performs other related duties as assigned. <br />KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: <br />o Knowledge of ground water and wells; <br />o Knowledge of water chemistry and microbiology. <br />o Knowledge of well construction and geological formations, and skill in communicating <br />with public and maintaining accurate field records. <br />o Knowledge of database entry and editing. Knowledge of water treatment systems and <br />their appropriate applications. <br />o Knowledge of indoor air quality issues and remedies. <br />o Knowledge of Orange County Groundwater Protection Regulations and the NC Well <br />Construction Standards <br />o Knowledge of various agencies within the State and county. <br />o Knowledge of basic mathematics. <br />o Slcill in the investigation of the causes of air quality problems. Knowledge of referral <br />resources. <br />o Slcill in use of sampling techniques and equipment and the GPS unit. <br />o Slcill in operating well camera equipment and associated recording device. <br />o Skill in operating moisture meters and radon assessments. <br />o Slcill in planning a caseload on a weekly, daily, and hourly basis. <br />o Slcill in oral and written communication with public; skill in maintaining a written <br />comprehensive schedule. <br />o Slcill in maintenance and interpretation of field records. <br />o Skill in use of computer word processing and data management tools. <br />o Slcill in a variety of computer applications and other electronic media (e-mail, web sites, <br />and fax) <br />o Skill in use of the GPS units <br />o Ability to read and to understand basic technical data. <br />o Ability to communicate, persuasively and effectively, both orally and in writing. <br />o Ability to carry out written and oral assignments. <br />o Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the <br />general public. <br />
