Updated 091907 <br />JOB TITLE: Environmental Health Technician <br />DEPARTMENT: Health, Orange County <br />JOB SUMMARY: This position provides field testing work collecting mandatory and voluntary <br />water samples, traclcing and reporting the results of water samples, and conducting basic indoor <br />air quality assessments, and in-office consultation and face-to-face education for residents with <br />questions regarding water samples and indoor air quality. <br />MAJOR DUTIES: <br />o Water Sampling Program <br />o Collects water samples at the request of homeowners and as required for new <br />wells. (Includes Bacteriological, Organic, and Inorganic analyses as well as <br />special samples.) <br />o Makes basic assessment of the water supply to assure that the sample is from a <br />protected source. <br />o Compiles laboratory results of water analyses and enters information into the <br />database. <br />o Generates reports as needed of water sampling results. <br />o Logs location of sampling point using Global Positioning System (GPS) handheld <br />receiver. Uploads GPS information into the geodatabase. <br />o Schedules and collects samples for County owned water supplies in accordance <br />with the sampling requirements. <br />o Assists in special environmental health surveys and studies as directed by <br />Environmental Health Director and/or Supervisor. <br />o Assists in preparing base information, tabulating data, and preparing preliminary <br />reports. <br />o Well Construction Program <br />o Conducts grouting inspections of new wells as needed. Verifies proper placement <br />and depth of grout during the inspection. <br />o Logs location of new well using GPS handheld receiver. Uploads GPS <br />information into the geodatabase. <br />o Participates in educational activities for homeowners and their neighborhood <br />groups regarding the proper maintenance of their water supply systems. <br />o Assists in the use the department's well video camera to diagnose well problems. <br />o Indoor Air Quality Program <br />o Provides basic indoor air quality assessments for homeowners who experience <br />problems with mold, radon, or other envirommental complaints. <br />o Maintains a daily log of activities and enters them into the database. <br />o Other duties <br />o Acquires appropriate education and training in the areas of indoor air quality and <br />private water supplies. <br />
