Updated 091907 a~ TITLE: Landfill /Transfer Supervisor DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste, Orange County JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for managing the disposal operations of the County Landfill and future Transfer Station to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. MAJOR DUTIES: • Coordinates and supervises daily work assignments, including time worked, to ensure compliance with regulations governing landfill operations. • Oversees operations staff and their functions, including inspecting, weighing, dumping and disposal of solid waste • Oversees operations staff and their functions in recycling of tires, metal, Freon, clean wood, yard waste, and other wastes no longer permitted to be buried. • Responsible for the coordination of maintenance/repair of equipment and facilities and general condition of equipment. • Inspects areas of disposal within landfill to monitor work performance for compliance with established policies, procedures and guidelines. • Oversees the Random Load inspections process of all loads plus other inspections such as segregated construction and demolition materials delivered to landfill. • Remains abreast of EPA, OSHA/ANSI, and DENR regulations; ensures that the landfill is in compliance with appropriate state, federal, and local laws and regulations. Insures that county facilities do not receive any Notice of Violations or other penalties relating to LandfilUTransfer Station operations. • Explains solid waste disposal and recycling regulations to the general public. • Operates landfill equipment as needed. • Performs Work Performance and Pay Reviews and recommends personnel disciplinary action as needed to supervisor. • Worlcs with Solid Waste Operations Manager in putting together and recommending a working budget. • Performs accident/incident investigation and forwards necessary paperwork. Takes appropriate action as necessary.
