13 <br />Updated 091907 <br />JOB TITLE: Water Resources Coordinator <br />DEPARTMENT: Environment and Resource Conservation, Orange County <br />JOB SIT1V.aVIARY: This position is responsible for providing scientific expertise and program <br />coordination of efforts for water resource conservation. <br />MAJOR DUTIES: <br />o Provides scientific expertise and reports to County agencies, advisory boards, <br />departments and the general public on water resources issues and questions, such as <br />assessment of droughts and floods, water resource protection policy, the nature of the <br />County's surface water hydrology and ground water hydrogeology (and the inter- <br />relationships between the two), and interpretation of current and future studies and <br />research in all areas of water resources. Interprets trends and implications from the data <br />and reports, and recommends courses of action such as evaluating the state of the <br />County's water resources, and assistance in planning for sustainable use and development <br />of the resource . <br />o Plans, designs and helps implement programs (such as a well observation network to <br />monitor ground water) in conjunction with staff in other departments, to provide an `early <br />warning system' for the County incases of droughts and floods and other impending <br />water resource emergencies, and provide for long-term measurement of trends. <br />o Coordinates new water resources research and studies, such as watershed technical <br />studies, and coordination of the proposed feasibility study required beginning in 2008 to <br />meet new Jordan Lake watershed nutrient management rules. <br />o Convenes and facilitates a Water Resources Interdepartmental Team, to ensure <br />information-sharing and coordination among the different departments and stakeholder <br />agencies with responsibilities in water resources . <br />o Evaluates, reviews and analyzes water resources reports and studies conducted at the <br />national, state and regional level, alzd participates in such state and regional water <br />resource programs as the County point of contact and liaison. Serves as the County's <br />representative on the many state and regional water initiatives and work groups that affect <br />the County's water supply (such as the Jordan Lake watershed stakeholder group, Upper <br />Neuse River Basin, or the Triangle J Water Resources Advisory Committee), and <br />reporting on the implications for Orange County from these initiatives to a variety of <br />County boards and staff. <br />o Expands and augments the existing Geographic Information System (GIS) water <br />resources database, allowing greater use of this mapping and data tool for water resources <br />planning . <br />
