2 <br /> Department of Social Services <br /> 2. The Department of Social Services anticipates additional revenue of $182,756 for <br /> third quarter payments, for Smart Start Subsidized Child Care program. The <br /> department will pay programs funds directly to childcare providers. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these additional funds. (See <br /> Attachment 1, column 2) <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is <br /> applicable to this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: ENSURE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY <br /> The creation and preservation of infrastructure, policies, programs and funding <br /> necessary for residents to provide shelter, food, clothing and medical care for <br /> themselves and their dependents. <br /> Economic Development — Orange County Arts Commission <br /> 3. The Orange County Arts Commission received a $90 donation for raffle products <br /> produced as part of the "Kids Helping Kids" program, a partnership between the <br /> Chapel Hill Woodturners Club and the woodshop students at Cedar Ridge High <br /> School. Funds will be used for"Arts in Education" grants for local schools. <br /> This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these additional funds. (See <br /> Attachment 1, column 3) <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is <br /> applicable to this agenda item: <br /> • GOAL: FOSTER A COMMUNITY CULTURE THAT REJECTS OPPRESSION <br /> AND INEQUITY <br /> The fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race or <br /> color; religious or philosophical beliefs; sex, gender or sexual orientation; national <br /> origin or ethnic background; age; military service; disability; and familial, residential <br /> or economic status. <br /> The impact of arts projects for traditionally under-served populations and geographic <br /> location is a part of the grant evaluation criteria across all Orange County Arts <br /> Commission grant categories. <br /> Department on Aging <br /> 4. The Department on Aging has received the following additional revenues: <br /> • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (Federal Funding) — receipt of $6,284 from <br /> the IRS for support of the federal VITA tax preparation service. These funds will be <br /> used to pay for additional temporary staff. <br /> • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (United Way Funding) — receipt of $6,624 <br /> from the Triangle United Way through the Compass Center for Women and <br /> Families for support of the federal VITA tax preparation service. These funds will <br /> be used to pay for additional operations and supply costs. <br />
