Pope Farm in Cedar Grove as an Orange County Local <br /> Landmark (2013) <br /> • Convened the Orange County Historic Preservation Summit (May 2012) involving ten <br /> organizations (historic commissions and non-profits) from the county and municipalities <br /> • Completed Design Standards for Orange County Local Landmarks and Local Historic <br /> Districts to provide the HPC with proper design review guidelines (2010) <br /> • Prepared the Cultural Resources Chapter of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan (2008) <br /> List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually. <br /> • Submits detailed annual report of all preservation activities to the state in order to comply <br /> with federal and state requirements to maintain Orange County's status as a Certified Local <br /> Government, including mandatory member and staff training; this allows the County to apply <br /> for special federal grants for historic preservation activities <br /> • Partner with Preservation Chapel Hill and the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough to promote <br /> and encourage historic preservation as a valuable tool to slow down sprawl and encourage <br /> smart growth <br /> • Administer the Orange County Local Historic Landmark Program, including reviews of <br /> proposed restoration work or additions through Certificates of Appropriateness. <br /> • Provide a forum for public comments on nominations to the National Register of Historic <br /> Places <br /> • Conduct reviews of proposed new infrastructure projects that might have an impact on <br /> historic resources, including cell towers, pipelines and transportation projects, including the <br /> Light Rail project, in partnership with the State Historic Preservation Office. <br /> Describe this commission's activities/accomplishments in carrying out BOCC <br /> goal(s)/priorities, if applicable. <br /> Goal Two: Promote an interactive and transparent system of governance that reflects <br /> community values. <br /> Priority 7: Improve intra-and intergovernmental coordination, cooperation and collaboration. <br /> (a)Work with Town of Hillsborough on: Joint land use planning approaches, <br /> policies/ordinances, and annexation, and Economic Development Districts. <br /> • The HPC's work with the Town of Hillsborough to establish a joint review process for <br /> projects affecting cultural resources (completed in 2014), as well as future designation of <br /> historic sites located in the Town's ETJ, speaks to Priority 7. <br /> Goal Three: Implement planning and economic development policies which create a <br /> balanced, dynamic local economy, and which promote diversity, sustainable growth and <br /> -2- <br />
