After receiving BOCC recommended amendments and <br /> making final revisions to the draft documents, the Advisory Board made a second <br /> presentation to the BOCC, and the grant programs were formally approved for use. <br /> During the remainder of 2015, a subcommittee comprised of Advisory Board members <br /> convened in several special quarterly meetings to review and vote on the initial <br /> applications, submitted by small business and agriculture/food processing firms in the <br /> County, for the two grant programs. <br /> In 2015 the Advisory Board received 50 small business applications and approved 28 <br /> awards totaling $183,338.00 for the Small Business Investment Grant program. In <br /> addition, the Agriculture Economic Development Grant program received 24 <br /> applications and approved 20 awards totaling $157,178.49 <br /> List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually: <br /> Describe this board/commission's activities/accomplishments in carrying out <br /> BOCC goals)/priorities, if applicable. <br /> The Advisory Board's normally scheduled meetings are held on the first Monday of <br /> every other month. Members also meet, as required, in various subcommittee <br /> gatherings to discuss specific topics. For example, special meetings in 2015 included <br /> the quarterly review and of small businesses' applications for the Small Business <br /> Investment Grant &Agriculture Economic Development Grant programs, which are <br /> funded by Article 46. The Advisory Board did not host other annual public events or <br /> functions in 2015. <br /> If your board/commission played the role of an Element Lead Advisory Board <br /> involved in the 2030 Comprehensive Plan preparation process, please indicate <br /> your board's activities/accomplishments as they may relate to the <br /> Comprehensive Plan's goals or objectives. <br /> N/A <br /> Identify any activities this board/commission expects to carry out in 2016 related <br /> to established BOCC •oals and •riorities. If a• •licable is there a fiscal im•act <br /> (i.e., funding, staff time, and other resources) associated with these proposed <br /> activities (please list). <br /> 1) Given the dramatic shift occurring in the food and beverage market, and the <br /> resulting disruptive effects in the existing and emerging food processing and <br /> manufacturing industry, the Advisory Board recommend that Orange County <br /> Economic Development's efforts embrace and capitalize on these global, <br /> national, and statewide trends, particularly the efforts outlined in the current <br /> North Carolina Food Processing and Manufacturing Initiative. The Advisory <br /> Board believes this will have positive effects on our local economy, create jobs, <br /> and diversify and strengthen local agricultural opportunities and the tax base. <br />
