19 <br />James Carnahan 122 Oat{ Street Carr>boro, NC 27510 24 August, 2007 <br />Commissioners and Advisory Board Chairs and members: <br />h some suggested edits to the ]Draft Comprehensive Plan Goals that I flunk clarify and enhance the <br />I am providing herewit <br />desire of the Advisory Boards-to engender a condition of life in Orange County that will be sustainable for ourselves and for <br />the generations that will follow us here. <br />My proposed edits are in the ri t hand column, for comparison with the original June draft on the left. Proposed edits are <br />shown in bold italicized type. <br />No "Overarching Goal" was provided for the "Housing" and <br />added proposed overarching goals for them <br />"Parks and Recreation" Elements. For consistency, I have <br />I have replaced phrasing that was a version of "sustainable growth," or "sustainable development' with something like <br />"development that is ecologically sustainable," or "growth that produces a sustainable future" "Sustainable Growth" can <br />mean two different things; I think what we want to focus on is being sure the outcomes of growth and development are <br />sustainable. <br />Most of my edits are to the "Overarching Goal" statements. My intent is to make sure their language is clearly focused on <br />the desire to achieve sustainable outcomes of growth & development in the County. <br />Draft County Goals € g jested County Goals <br />COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE, COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE, <br />DRAFT GOALS DRAFT GOALS <br />Staff Note: The following draft goals have been <br />developed to support the Board of County <br />Commissioners (BOCC) adopted Comprehensive <br />Plan Guiding Principles. At the June 21, 2007 Joint <br />Advisory Boards meeting, advisory board members <br />identified linkages among and between Element <br />Goals and BOCC Guiding Principles. Staff will use <br />the information gathered on the 21St to "code" each <br />goal in some manner to reflect its corresponding <br />BOCC Principle(s) and will have this additional <br />information included as part of the August 27, 2007 <br />Quarterly Public Hearing materials. <br />A.
